Motadata AIOps offers a robust Log Collection Profile feature that enables you to ingest logs from your network infrastructure efficiently. This feature provides key advantages:

  • Remote Log Ingestion: Collect logs from devices across your network.
  • Agentless Log Collection: Eliminate the need to install agents on every end device.
  • Device Monitoring Independence: Collect logs from devices without adding them as formal monitors in Motadata AIOps.

This streamlined approach simplifies log management and provides centralized access to critical log data for analysis and troubleshooting.

You can access the Log Collection Profile settings within Motadata AIOps through the following navigation path:

  • Main Menu -> Settings -> Log Settings -> Log Collection Profile

Log Collection Profile Screen

The Log Collection Profile screen provides an overview of your configured log collection profiles. Here’s a breakdown of the fields you’ll find:

  • Profile Name: The unique, user-defined name assigned to the log collection profile.
  • Description: An optional, user-defined description that provides context for the profile.
  • Collection Type: The protocol used for log collection (e.g., Syslog, SNMP).
  • Log Parser: The type of log parser associated with the profile, which determines how the raw log data is structured and interpreted.
  • Collection Status: Indicates whether Motadata AIOps is currently able to successfully fetch logs from the target device.
  • Status: Indicates whether log collection is active.
  • Action: The actions available for a log collection profile, such as editing or deleting the profile.

Creating a Log Collection Profile

To create a new log collection profile, perform the following:

  • On the Log Collection Profile screen, locate and click the “Create Log Collection Profile” option, typically found in the top right corner of the interface.

Create Log Collection Profile Parameters

The “Create Log Collection Profile” screen presents the following parameters for configuration:

  • Profile Name: Enter a descriptive, user-defined name for the log collection profile.
  • Description: Provide an appropriate description to clarify the purpose or scope of this profile.
  • Collection Type: Select the protocol that Motadata AIOps will use to collect logs from the target device. The available options are presented in a dropdown menu.
  • Log Parser: Choose a log parser type from the dropdown menu. The selected parser will be used to structure the ingested log data.
  • Important: If you do not select a log parser, the ingested logs will be categorized under the “Other” category within Log Explorer.
  • Runbook: Select an existing Runbook from the dropdown menu. This Runbook will be used for the log collection process.
  • Create Runbook: If you do not have a suitable Runbook for log collection, you can create a new one directly from this screen.
  • Collection Interval: Specify the time interval (in seconds, minutes, etc.) between successive log collections.
  • Timeout: Define the duration that Motadata AIOps should wait for a response from the device before aborting the log collection attempt. This setting is crucial for handling unresponsive devices or network issues.

Actions:

  • Create Log Collection Profile: Click this button to save the configured parameters and create the log collection profile.
  • Reset: Click this option to clear all entered values in the fields, allowing you to start the configuration from scratch.
