Why Do Teams Look for a Pingdom Alternative?

A team with four checkout flows to watch needs four Advanced Checks before it has timed a single page load. Past that entry tier, Pingdom pricing scales on uptime checks, Advanced Checks, and SMS volume together.

2. External Checks Cannot See Inside the Application

Pingdom measures your site the way a visitor in another city would. That is the whole design. It runs probes from the public internet, so it can tell you a page returned a 500 error in four seconds.

What it cannot tell you is which service produced the error. When a page slows down, the cause is usually a database query, a saturated host, or a downstream API. None of those are visible to an external probe.

We have watched teams keep synthetic monitoring in one tool and infrastructure data in another, then match timestamps by hand at the worst possible moment.

3. SolarWinds Is Moving Pingdom Accounts to a Successor

SolarWinds publishes a support document called Migrate from Pingdom to SolarWinds Observability SaaS.

It is written to Pingdom customers rather than to the market. It describes a wave-based move onto SolarWinds Observability Digital Experience Monitoring.

The document is direct about what that means. It states: "SolarWinds Observability Digital Experience is the next generation of Pingdom, and it's been coming for a long time."

On timing, it says: "at the end of approximately 90 days, you will no longer use Pingdom." Historical data does not travel with the account. RUM snippets have to be replaced on every site, and the move runs once.

None of this makes Pingdom a bad product, and it has not been discontinued. It is still sold today. The pricing page was updated in April 2026, and a free trial is still running.

Plenty of teams renew each year and get what they pay for. The point is narrower. If this line item was due a review anyway, the review is more useful now than after a migration email lands.

Is UptimeRobot better than Pingdom?

UptimeRobot is cheaper and simpler, with 50 free monitors, but it has no real user monitoring and thinner transaction checks. It is better if you only need uptime alerts. It is worse if you rely on Pingdom's page speed or RUM data.

Can you replace Pingdom's real user monitoring?
