How Do You Install Hyper-V Management Tools?

Installing Hyper-V management tools takes one of three routes, and the tools install without the hypervisor itself so administrators can manage servers from a workstation.

Hyper-V management tools Windows 10 and Windows 11 Pro or Enterprise: Open Settings, then System, then Optional features, then More Windows features. Expand Hyper-V and select Hyper-V Management Tools. Leaving Hyper-V Platform unchecked installs the console without enabling the hypervisor locally.

On Windows Server: Open Server Manager, choose Add Roles and Features, then select Hyper-V Management Tools under Remote Server Administration Tools.

Through PowerShell: Run "Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature -Online -FeatureName Microsoft-Hyper-V-Tools-All " in an elevated session. On Windows Server, "Install-WindowsFeature -Name RSAT-Hyper-V-Tools" achieves the same result.

Remote management needs two more steps. WinRM must be enabled on both machines, and non-domain scenarios need credential delegation configured. Skipping those is the usual reason a correctly installed console connects to nothing.
